Coke Fest 2018

A start-studded evening, the most scrumptious food in the world and a chilled bottle of Coke – what more could one want? The month of spring, and to be more specific the second weekend of March, welcomed Coke Fest in all its glory!

Coke Fest 2018

It was a three-day spectacle filled with grand musical performances by Pakistan’s very own, bite-sized desi & western food with a lot of Karachi-ites waiting to be amazed. We reached around 4pm at the beach venue and luckily escaped the never-ending queue that formed shortly afterwards. The food stalls were set up early and kids were seen munching on anything they could get their hands on.

Sound-check followed shortly after, and the sparsely populated crowd got a glimpse of the bands in rehearsal mode. As people started pouring in, the event was engulfed by a plethora of lights near the stage illuminating the night sky like fireflies.

Before the crowd could start head banging to Quadram’s sick drum solos or String’s guitar beats, they had to replenish their energy reserves and boy did they have a host of ‘good’ options.

From the hand-crafted Italian goodness of Sobremesa to the Japanese-styled stringy egg noodles from Chop Chop Wok, the food was a huge hit! Surprisingly the star performer wasn’t any European or Asian cuisine stall, it was an All-American classic – the donut burger from 2 Guys 1 Grll. The queue in front of their stall coupled with the fact that I was pleased after eating it was testament to the popularity of the burger.

There was a treat for everyone in the family, especially the younger ones. They had a wide variety of activities to choose from jumping castles to entertainment courtesy of a bunch of clowns. From the looks of it, most of the kids were bouncing from one option to the other and just having a good time!

Obviously, the main highlight was the music which started on each of the days after 8pm. The line-up was to die for!

Amidst the countless performances the ones that stood out were Zoe and Rachel Viccaji’s soulful vocals and lively stage performance, Quadram’s otherworldly drum-play intermixed with sounds of nature and the cherry on the top was the (as always) crowd-pleaser Strings.Strings at Coke Fest 2018

All-in-all it was managed well and the beach venue was spaciously accommodating for both the people and the parking. Definitely looking forward to the next Coke Fest!
